Snowboard on This Chanel Board … With Your Legs Crossed

chanel

Chanel has been in the luxury sporting goods market for awhile now. They’ve made bikes with quilted seats, fly-fishing rods, and more. But now that we’re heading into the winter months, snow sports are a natural progression. They have goggles, traditional skis, and snowboards for the jet-setting traveler who needs their Chanel while in Gstaad. A sleek black snowboard with the logo might not catch your eye, but they seem to think that a snowboard should probably be set up as demonstrated in the picture.

But oops! The problem is, the bindings are on backward. At quick glance, the snowboard seems to be set up for a person who rides regular, meaning with their left foot forward. But see those little silver tabs? They’re supposed to be on the outside of the foot, and not the inside. The way this is set up, you’d have to put your right foot in the front and then twist your body so your left foot faces the same way. So unless you have detachable and interchangeable legs, or care to snowboard with your legs crossed like a pretzel, this probably won’t take you down a mountain in one piece. Maybe no snowboarders were in the photo studio that day.

Chanel’s Latest Fashion Show Brings Dreaminess and Age To the Runway

Chanel’s latest fashion show

Chanel’s latest fashion show

Karl Lagerfeld recently showed his Chanel collection on the runway, with a background of the movie from 1961, “Last Year in Marienbad”, which set the tone for the show completely. There was the sound of splashing fountains, music that was sweetly haunting, and a set that was black-and-white, yet completely abstract in its construction. Many are calling this show Lagerfeld’s best work for Chanel.

The collection was dream-like, with feathers gently flowing across a vast majority of textiles ranging from chiffon, to denim, to a dress made of light tweed. The collection showcased the wide-ranging imagination of Lagerfeld, but the extraordinary was to be found in the details of the show. Chanel was sure to stay away from numerous runway gimmicks that are often seen across the boards, with the one exception being a father and son strutting his-and-his jackets made out of tweed. However, Lagerfeld found a balance in this collection, ensuring that the collection was essentially Chanel, while making sure that the designs could be worn across a wide-reaching audience.

Casting Elegant Shadows in Chanel’s Garden

Anyone who has seen the Resnais film “Last Year at Marienbad” (1961) will recognize the source for Karl Lagerfeld’s black-and-white garden at the Chanel show  today. Some 2,800 people saw the show, at the Grand Palais, a gorgeous display of pale colors and filmy black dresses against a white pebbled ground and black terraces. The garden extended in three directions, with a fountain in the center, and a full orchestra set up at the end of one allee.

The beautiful show gave a greater emotional charge than the winter collection. Well, no wonder — it was set around an iceberg. Mr. Lagerfeld exchanged fake fur for feathers, to convey the sense of lightness that ran throughout the collection. Many of the fabrics are not what they might appear. For instance, classic tweeds may be loosely woven ribbons in pale pink and pistachio; a gray ottoman knee-length dress with a slightly rounded shape was actually done in silver metallic threads. The clothes were light in both construction and attitude, with a disintegrated quality to tweed jackets and frayed denim. A pale pink taffeta A-line dress was slashed with holes and then embroidered with black beads. The hem was filled in with pink feathers.

Hemlines were long and short, and Mr. Lagerfeld kept the colors soft and pale: pink, sky blue, peach, gold and silver tones — and heaps of black.

Desirée Rogers: Johnson Publishing Feels Like Home

chanel Desirée Rogers: Johnson Publishing Feels Like Home

chanel

Back in August it was announced that former White House social secretary (and total fashion hound) Desirée Rogers would take over as CEO of Johnson Publishing, whose publications include Ebony and Jet. This weekend the Comme des Garcons gown-wearing, Chanel-loving Rogers got the Sunday Styles treatment. What did we learn?

Well, we learned that Rogers is tasked with the difficult job of making Ebony relevant again. However, it also sounds like there is no better person for the undertaking. First of all, Desirée killed it during Fashion Week. Secondly, she has the support of a certain iconic editor:

During New York Fashion Week, she watched shows by Jason Wu, Thakoon and Rodarte from front-row seats, blogging about her experience. Since taking over in her new role, she has consulted the Vogue editor Anna Wintour and the Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter for advice on navigating the magazine business. “Desirée is a rock star,” Ms. Wintour said when asked about Ms. Rogers’s prospects as a magazine executive.

BRIEF: ST. LOUIS: Man admits selling counterfeit goods

September 30th, 2010 admin No comments

Sep 30, 2010 (St. Louis Post-Dispatch – McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) –

A St. Louis man accused of selling more than $1 million in counterfeit goods pleaded guilty to a federal counterfeit goods trafficking charge Wednesday.

Dirk L. Robinson, 55, of the 4700 Margaretta Avenue, admitted selling clothing and shoes bearing counterfeit logos including Nike, Chanel, Coach, Ed Hardy, LaCoste, Polo Ralph Lauren, Timberland and True Religion from his home business “Jeans and Things,” prosecutors said.

Robinson also agreed to forfeit $28,476, counterfeit and stolen goods and computer and electronic equipment, prosecutors said.

St. Louis police received a tip about Robinson’s operation and they and federal agents raided the home in April, netting what they said could be more than $1 million in counterfeit items.

Community Projects Thrift Store’s Putting on the Glitz annual sale will take place Saturday, Oct. 2, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Jorgen Gulliksen/Register photos

The holidays are about to kick off with two of the valley’s most highly anticipated events — the special sales at Community Projects Thrifts Store.

Putting on the Glitz, a sale of holiday fashions, begins this Saturday during regular store hours. On Nov. 7, the store opens on Sunday for its special “Treasures of Holiday Past” sale.

Community Projects, a group founded during World War II, collects donations throughout the year, sells them in their thrift shop and donates the proceeds back to the community. Over the years they’ve given thousands of dollars to worthy causes — everything from buying drums for Napa High to scholarships for deserving students.

But during the year, as really special items come in, the volunteers set them aside in their sorting rooms for these two sales.

At both of them, one never knows what treasures you might find.

For “Putting on the Glitz” they bring out racks of glamorous vintage gowns, velvet, silk and satin, short and beaded, long and elegant and many with designer labels. In addition, you’ll find furs, leather jackets, sequined jackets, holiday sweaters, hats and handbags and even gloves.

And the prices are one of the most delightful surprises — you can waltz through the holidays in style, for example, knowing you spent $20 on your black velvet Dior jacket.
