Women in Sutton Benger will be helping to raise money for Help for Heroes on Saturday when they hold a Gladrags and Handbags fashion sale in the village hall.

Christine Williams of the Sutton Benger WI, which is hosting the sale, said the toll on human life taken by the war in Afghanistan was clear to people in the village living under the flight path of RAF Lyneham.

She said: “We are very close to RAF Lyneham and we know every time they bring back the dead and the wounded. When the planes fly over the village it makes you stop and think. It seems to happen on a regular basis.”

To help the charity the WI is holding a sale of new and very nearly new clothes and accessories.

Some items have been donated by members and local businesses will be manning their own stalls selling their wares.

Mrs Williams said: “This isn’t going to be a jumble sale. There will be a great variety of items on offer.

“Among the local businesses coming in is a company which sells hand- made silk skirts from India.”

Fossil President Michael Barnes to replace Terry Burman at parent of Akron’s Sterling
The president of watch and handbag maker Fossil Inc. has been chosen for the top job at Signet Jewelers Ltd. (NYSE: SIG), parent company of Sterling Inc. of Akron.

Michael Barnes, who also is Fossil’s chief operating officer, will replace Signet’s Terry Burman, and like Burman, be based in the Sterling Jewelers building on Ghent Road in Akron.

Signet is the British parent of Akron-headquartered Sterling, which employs about 2,000 locally and operates Kay Jewelers, Jared The Galleria of Jewelry and other stores.

Signet said in 2008 that Burman, now 64, planned to step down Jan. 29, 2011.

Shares of Signet closed Wednesday up 62 cents to $32.22. Shares are up 24 percent from a year ago and up 20.6 percent in 2010.

Barnes, 49, will join the company Dec. 1.

Revellers in Preston’s pubs and clubs are being warned to keep an eye on their handbags and other property after a thief stole items from a woman’s handbag in Revolution in Preston.

The thief struck at around 11pm on Saturday.

The bag had been left unattended on a table for just a few minutes.

Sgt Julian Ormiston, of Preston Police, said: “It is always important revellers keep their property with them at all times.

“It can take just seconds for an opportunist thief to steal items like bags and phones when they are left unattended.”

An international company that makes a wildly popular brand of luxury accessories and clothing is suing a Sweetwater landmark.

Coach Incorporated says the Sweetwater Flea Market illegally sold various types of knock-off merchandise with the Coach label. The New York based company is suing in federal court for copyright and trademark violations. It accuses the flea market and several employees of designing, making and selling fake Coach products including handbags.

Coach is asking for various types of compensation including all profits the flea market made from any illegal sales.

LIMERICK Gardai warn that gloves are off in their search for a various assortment of city handbag snatchers, including one wearing red kitchen oven gloves.
In a fresh appeal to women to be extra vigilant, gardai are believed to be hot on the trail of the oven gloves suspect who raced off with his pickings of cash and credit cards from a woman while she was walking on Clancy Strand.

“We don’t know the purpose of wearing gloves…it was most unusual,” said a spokesperson.
The culprit was wearing blue jeans, a beige/green jacket and a green baseball cap, and described as around 6ft and in his mid forties.

After the theft, he made his escape in a nearby green Toyota.
A number of handbag snatches have been reported in recent days.

Two blonde females were responsible for a handbag theft outside Penneys on Sunday, September 26, at 12.20am.
They were described as around 20 to 25 years old, and relieved the lone female of her bag and possessions.
Later on the same day there were a number of similar thefts.
